Frequently Asked Questions
What are your school hours?
The school hours are 9:00 am - 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. If you are a school-day only student you can come between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm.
Do you offer before and after school care?
Yes, before school is from 7 am - 8 am and after school is from 4 pm - 6 pm.
What is your average class size?
Our classes generally range from 10-12 students. We like to keep the classes small so that the teachers can spend time working with each student individually.
What curriculum do you follow?
Our curriculum is based on the Virginia Standards of Learning. We make sure that each grade level covers the same topics that grades in the public schools follow so that when, in the future, our students move on to middle and high school they have the same foundation of study. Since we do not take the SOL tests, we are able to expand our curriculum further than the public schools and allow our students to study more advanced topics.
Do you administer the SOLs?
No, we do not feel that a single test such as the SOL should be the sole benchmark of a child's understanding of grade level material.
What tests do you use to evaluate the students?
In the Fall we administer the OLSAT (Otis Lennon School Ability Test) which gauges each child's school abilities. In the Spring we give an achievement test, the Metropolitan Achievement Test, to see how much the students have learned.
What are the qualifications of your teachers?
All of our teachers have Bachelor's Degrees and most are enrolled in graduate school pursuing their Master's Degrees in Education.
Do your Kindergarten classes take naps?
No. Our Kindergarten classes are full-day classes and have special classes in Music, PE, and Computers in the afternoons instead of taking naps.
What special classes do you offer and how much do they cost?
Each student takes Spanish, Music, Computers, and PE with different teachers than their classroom teachers throughout the week. These classes are part of the curriculum and there is no extra fee for the classes. We also offer Karate and Gymnastics after school for a fee.
Tuition is charged monthly. Do I have to pay monthly?
Tuition is charged monthly but you do not have to pay it all at one time. You can break the payment into 2 payments or pay every week if you like. You can set up payment plans with the office.
Do you offer tuition assistance?
Our goal as a school is to provide a quality learning environment for our students. We do not want to prevent people with limited means the opportunity to have a quality private school education. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying families.
Do you ever take the children on field trips?
Yes, we go on several field trips as a school throughout the year. We have school buses and vans that we use for field trips. Individual classes also go on field trips to supplement their curriculum.
Do you provide transportation for the children?
We provide transportation for school-sponsored field trips. We do not provide door to door pickup and drop off.
Do the children have to wear uniforms?
No, we do not have a uniform policy for the students. Our dress code is casual, neat clothes and we ask that the children wear sneakers on PE days. The children should not wear open-toed shoes.
Does my child need to bring a lunch everyday?
You can choose to bring a lunch or you can purchase school lunch. Lunches are $3 a day and can be purchased a month at a time or for individual days.
